Knowledge exchange and networking
Every year, caregivers from Central Germany gather for the Oncology Nursing Day of the Central German Cancer Center, which alternates between Leipzig and Jena.
This year's event on March 7, 2024, in Jena provided participants not only with a platform for expanding their knowledge and acquiring practical skills but also served as a forum for exchanging experiences. The event offered a variety of new perspectives in oncological care and an opportunity for caregivers to network, expand their competencies, and collaborate on practical solutions to the challenges in caring for cancer patients.
Our employee from the S3 guideline "Nutrition and Nutritional Medicine in Oncology," Viktoria Mathies, oncology certified nurse Nadine Haupt, and Annett Sudarma, Team Leader of the Inpatient Palliative Care Service, led one of the highly informative workshops. Titled "WORLDCAFÈ – Side Effects of Oncological Therapy and Nursing Recommendations (Hair Loss, Nutritional Problems, Pain)," participants had the opportunity to exchange views on these three main topics.
They were presented with various challenges for which practical solutions were provided. For example, the use of temporary eyebrow tattoos for hair loss or tasting different flavors of oral nutritional supplements as a means to combat weight loss aimed to offer innovative approaches to improving oncological care and support, as well as enhancing the quality of life for cancer patients.
